The ship builder app has reached v1.0, I'm happy to call this done, for now.
I was hyped for Squadrons, more so than any grown man should be. I understood how silly my excitement was, but was comfortable with it. Squadrons was something to look forward to in one of the bleakest periods of modern history. I just wanted to shoot some TIE fighters with my friends.
In the months preceding the launch of Squadrons, I focused my energy into learning about the game and subsequently into creating this site to share what I had learned. It was a lot of fun, in the process I learnt a lot both about Squadrons and web development, enjoyed being part of a community of like-minded gamers and got to chat with some really cool people who wanted to see this site succeed. Many thanks to those people!
The game released, and for a few days, it was a lot of fun. I hadn't had a gaming experience like it. Every time I logged on there was always a group of friends ready to squad up and take down some ISDs. It was great, but then the realisation kicked in. This game wasn't finished and it was riddled with bugs, some of which were acceptable, some of which really started to impact my enjoyment of the game.
Honestly, I'm disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the core gameplay of the game is great, but bugs such as the fps limit and ranked issues have meant I just haven't enjoyed playing Squadrons after that initial blast. This has impacted my desire to work on SquadronsBuilds.com too, which is really disappointing for me. I had a large backlog of features to add, most of them community requested, and couldn't wait to see what we could come up with. I wanted to write about Squadrons, create content and make SquadronsBuilds a real hub of information, but I just don't have the desire now, so for that, my apologies.
I'll start playing again once the issues have been fixed, I trust in Motive to get this game into a state worthy of release. Once that happens, maybe I'll start work on this site again too. I'm happy with what I've produced so far, the site has seen thousands of users who I hope have found some value in it, and I've learnt a lot along the way.
So for now, the ship builder app is in its final state and I'll make updates to the app if ever components or ships changes are introduced. I just won't be adding any new features for now.
This article started as a small post to mark the full release of the app but turned into somewhat of a ramble. If you've got this far, thanks for reading, it means a lot.
